Project Description

This acoustic telemetry study will examine landscape-scale movements of Northern Map Turtles within a section of the St. Lawrence River by utilizing the existing GLATOS Project, STLRV that was established in 2021 and maintained by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The project aims to document seasonal movement patterns and habitat use, including potential overwintering locations, within a major stronghold of the species in New York.

Objectives

Track movements of 10 adult male and 10 adult female Northern Map Turtles using acoustic telemetry. Identify high-occupancy areas and activity centers used by Northern Map Turtles within the study reach of the St. Lawrence River.

Management Benefits

The study will provide movement data for Northern Map Turtles in the St. Lawrence River, informing baseline understanding of spatial ecology for a species of conservation concern in New York.
